Dec 6th morning I went to Microsoft Innovation Day at Microsoft Auditorium in Singapore (at NTUC Center). These days MSFT are trying to lure people everywhere. I attended the same session about Silverlight just 1 day after at BarCampJB in Malaysia!!!!
Here is the agenda.
I’m not really interested in .NET and Microsoft, but I’m interested in technology/technical evangelism. But ghosh, I lost the way as usual and arrived NTUC around 11am (this event was from 9.30am to 12.00am). Thanks God I didn’t miss the session about Windows 7. Well, they boasted a lot about it (you can see in the slide) and I wonder how it will look like. How many people here have a laptop with touch screen??
I checked out Facebook this morning and saw Daniel’s status update: “just woke up at @barcampjb”. They are all ready!!
The first thing I noticed about BarCamp’s organization this time is the organizers are doing really good job. I signed up for BarCampJB’s email-list about 2 months ago and have recieved update emails every several days. They are working hard on it.
Unlike in Vietnam where there are few girls participating in tech game and I was the only girl in BarCamp Saigon’s board of organizers, this BarCamp is suprisingly leaded mostly by girls (Cheryl Goh). And she promised me there would be many girls to show up. I’m really excited for that. Maybe b/c of there are too many guys around me, I’m always passionate about girls.
BarCampJB Information
As you can see, this BarCamp will be held for 2 days. Nice huh??? I was wondering about accommodation and other stuff but Preetam explained pretty clear for me. BarCamp Bangkok was held for 2 days as well, and the night party is one of the most important of a 2-day BarCamp. As I read in one email update about BarCamp attendees’ statistics, there are around 40 people will be staying overnight. Wow I’m so excited.
While there are no restrictions on the sessions at BarCampJB, the event focus on entrepreneurship and ICT in general. Thomas was trying to have me do a session like: “How to date a Vietnamese girl”. It doesn’t seem to fit well with this BarCamp. Seriously, I’m gonna do a session about Vietnamese web market at 4pm in Singapore Wing room (will upload a slide soon). But I haven’t prepared anything so far. You can browse for more session here. Infact well preparing is good. It’s very easy for attendees like me to browse through all sessions, and for newcomers to have an idea of what they should expect. But I like the “openness” nature of BarCamp. It should be great if we can help people can sign up for presenting on-site and kee the order of a BarCamp at the same time. I think it’s one of the most successful point of BarCamp Saigon (thanks to online schedule and our schedule manager).
Ok let’s go. See you guys in few hours. You can check for more information about BarCampJB here
Here is the new Google Android Phone. The phone in this video belongs to Vinoaj from Google. It seems to be a iPhone with keyboard. Aww iPhone, I really want one.
This post is my apology. I was too busy to take care of my blog. But as one of my friend said: I’m a technology evangelist, then my blog has to be a blog of a technology evangelist.
Ok, I will start from today, writing more often and more efficiently. I’m in Singapore now. It’s pretty good. I have learnt alot about Singaporean culture, technology background and people here.
This blog from now on will be used to cover the web life going on in Vietnam and all places I come through.
Be a girl or be a geek??
For you guys in Hanoi those expressed your jealousy of us after Google DevFest in HCMC and BarCamp Saigon, I have some good news for you today. I’m not trying to make my blog an event blog, but I can’t help blogging about it.
The first OpenSocial Hackathon in Hanoi is coming on Saturday December 13th at eXo Platform SEA Offices (7th & 8th Floors, Thai Ha Building, 11 Thai Ha Street. Dong Da District - Hanoi – Vietnam). The organizers of this Hackathon are noone other than eXo Platform guys (one of the companies who joinedGoogle DevFest Tour around South East Asia) and Jason Vu - co-ordinator of Google DevFest HCM. Frankly, the first Google DevFest HCMC wasn’t as successful as expected, lacked of participation from audiences and not many Vietnamese developers could understand such a long speech in English. But Jeremi promised this time it would be much more exciting with more hacking and less talk.
Here comes the agenda:
• 10:30AM – 11:00AM : Registration
• 11:00AM – 12:00PM : openSocial Presentation
• 12:00PM – 1:00PM : brainstorming + pizza
• 1:00PM – 5:00PM : Coding your openSocial applications
• 1:00PM – 2:00PM : guided walkthrough a first openSocial gadget
• 5:00PM – 6:00PM : presentation of what have been done in the afternoon
As promoted in eXo’s blog, this hackathon is to “help developers to use this new standard and to prepare them to the openSocial gadget contest where there are many prizes to win. It will be also the occasion for Vietnamese social networks to discover this standard.”
Sounds cool lah?? But there are only 50 seats available, so register soon. I wish I could be there to join you guys!! I love everything for free hahaha.
Another good news is Jeremi and Ninh Nguyen and maybe some other guys in Hanoi are preparing for the 2nd BarCamp Hanoi. Dunno when exactly it is but it should be before Vietnamese traditional Tet holiday. This time I won’t miss it. Hope that you guys will fix the date soon so that I can plan for my Hanoi trip. Miss Hanoi so so much!!! And if any of you have any idea for BarCamp Hanoi or wanna help with organizing it, come visit its wiki or simply put down your comment here.
